I decided to go with The Learning People so that I can leave the peripheral stuff with them and just focus on studying, which I believe was definitely beneficial and recommend to anyone getting overwhelmed by the number of courses and opinions out there!

Alex Tashkoff

Reason for enrolling:

Alex had been working in Systems Administration roles within IT for about 5 years. After stopping work to support a sick family member and then Covid hitting, he was struggling to re-enter a role in IT. He had not worked for about 2 years so wanted to get a role quickly. He also wanted to do certifications that meant he had progression opportunities within a role. Alex had previously tried to do some training through a cheaper alternative, but found he could not retain the information and never ended up sitting an exam. Alex was excited to get started!

StudentCareTM

Alex was happy to have consistent support from StudentCare. He was nervous about self-paced training and how he would keep himself on track. He wanted to make sure he actually retained the information. He had regular check ins from Kelsea in the StudentCare team and had lots of questions about his study techniques. He ticked off each certification one at a time and made great progress. He loved that StudentCare prepped him for the exams so he knew exactly what to expect.

Career Services

After completing the first couple of certifications, Alex started working with Career Services. He wanted to slowly work at getting his CV and LinkedIn profile updated while still finishing the training. Tabatha, from our Career Services team, helped Alex with this as well as how to be marketable and noticeable in the industry. He did not want to get a role until after he finished training, so she gave him advice around building a network in the background to ensure it was a quick transition into a role when he was ready. They did interview preparation together once he started getting interviews. Alex has now gained a role as a Junior Security Analyst and is excited to continue with his IT career.

The results

Matthew Kaira, Age at enrolment: 21

Reason for enrolling:

After finishing high school, Matthew knew he wanted to get into Cyber Security. He had always been interested in IT but wasn’t sure what the best option was in terms of training options. He had dabbled in some training on YouTube but wanted to take the next step. Matthew spoke with one of our Career Consultants and liked the sound of the practical training. He had research some other options such as a university degree but thought it sounded very theory based. Matthew did not think this would set him up to do the job. He found the process nice and easy from when he first inquired and felt like he got all the information he needed to make the decision. Matthew decided to enrol and was looking forward to getting started.

StudentCareTM

Matthew got stuck into the training as soon as he had his orientation. He wanted to get through the certifications quickly so he could begin working in the industry. Matthew had help from Hollie in our Student Care team, to stay motivated and keep on track. Initially he struggled a little with finding a routine and being consistent. But after regular conversations with Student Care and a study plan, Matthew started making great progress. After passing his first exam he knew this was the right decision and was excited about the job search process.

Career Services

Matthew started working with Tabatha in our Career Services team after his first couple of certifications. They started with a CV consultation. Since Matthew did not have any work experience after high school, they discussed ways of addressing this and ensuring they focused on the certifications and skillset gained from these. From there they discussed his LinkedIn profile and the application process. It was important that Matthew stood out amongst other applicants. Tabatha taught him ways of networking with people in the industry and techniques to stand out when he did apply for roles. Once Matthew started interviewing, they conducted practice interviews. He was quite nervous about this as he did not have much experience interviewing. Matthew ended up getting quite afew interviews and had options when picking a role! He is now thrilled to be working in the industry.

“I thank the various teams for accommodating my studies with the Learning People. In the early stages with LP I wasn’t sure what to expect and managing the complete autonomy on my end took some time, StudentCare™ helped with this a lot and with every course I completed, there were online labs, practice questions, additional reading material and even mock exams before the real deal. I think the package provides a good value for price and it’s no wonder they’re highly commended by CompTIA in the region.

During this time Sommer, Hollie and the mentors have been quick to help when I had questions about the course-work, needed an exam voucher and even when I needed to arrange an extension.

Tabatha from Careers Support has also been as it were holding my hand from the start of my job hunting process and has expressed I can still approach if I require her guidance.

I can only speak to the type of course I took and similar ones, but I think the Learning People are a great option to provide the knowledge to facilitate growth in your given role or transitioning into another more smoothly.

Thank you all!”

Annie Foote, Age at enrolment: 20

Reason for enrolling:

Annie enrolled with Learning People while at high school. She always had a passion for IT and wanted to get higher level certifications than what her high school curriculum could offer her. It was important for her to get a head start on her career and she knew industry certifications would help. Annie liked the idea of Cyber Security so was excited when she learnt about the different certifications Learning People could offer.

StudentCareTM

Annie still had a full workload in her final year of high school, so she worked closely alongside StudentCare to ensure she managed her time efficiently and prioritised both her training and her schoolwork. StudentCare had regular check in calls with her as well as setting up a Study Planner. Annie was happy with this support and liked that she could always call someone if she had any questions throughout the process. StudentCare made sure to schedule catch up calls outside of school hours and had a flexible schedule that worked for Annie.

Career Services

Annie knew she wanted to go to University after finishing high school. Career Services kept this in mind while working with her. She still wanted to get a foot in the door and get a part-time role while studying. Career Services helped with Annie’s CV and setting up a LinkedIn profile to ensure she could find the right opportunity that would fit in with her lifestyle. Annie thought this advice was crucial to her finding a role as she was unsure how to navigate the job market. Annie is now working as a Service Desk Analyst for Datacom. We are excited to see what she will achieve in the future!

The results
  • CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cyber Security Analyst+
  • Obtained a part-time role as a Service Desk Analyst at Datacom while studying towards her degree
Annie says:

“The learning people made my journey to certification effortless by guiding me throughout the process from helping with choosing what certifications to take all the way to booking the exam, allowing me to focus on learning. My certifications have helped significantly with finding a job which has been important as someone who has just finished high school and starting my career. They helped me create a CV and a LinkedIn profile. I found this extremely beneficial as I had never used the platform. I am excited to have gained a role in the industry whilst studying and could not have done it without the Learning People!

Bidhan Chapagai, Age at enrolment: 35

Reason for enrolling:

Bidhan had previously completed some IT studies in India before moving to New Zealand and completing a Masters in Accounting. Bidhan approached Learning People to discuss changing from accounting and moving into IT as this is his passion and wants a career he will enjoy. After having a great discussion regarding his career options with his Senior Career Consultant Arthur, Bidhan started his Cyber Security study journey.

StudentCareTM

Upon enrolling, Hollie from the StudentCare™ team phoned Bidhan to ensure he was comfortable with the platform navigation, examination and the support process, as well as regularly checking in with Bidhan to ensure his journey was progressing smoothly. The StudentCare™ team are excited to continue supporting Bidhan until he has completed the remainder of his certifications.

Career Services

Bidhan received an initial welcome call from Mikayla within the Career Services team to ensure the support process was clearly highlighted. Within a few months of enrolling, Mikayla and Bidhan completed a full CV, Cover Letter, LinkedIn and Networking Consult. Mikayla also completed several reviews to ensure Bidhan’s CV and Cover Letter were addressed and personalised for each position. Mikayla then completed a couple training sessions on interview preparation and tips that Bidhan can take into future interviews.

The results
  • CompTIA Network+, Security +
  • Obtained a role as a Graduate Network Test Engineer at Allied Telesis Labs
Bidhan says:

“When I first enrolled for the course, everything was seamless. I was provided with a username and a password to Percipio and as soon as I logged in, everything was all there to help me get started. I also received a phone call from Hollie in the Student Care team to make sure I know my way around to navigate to different course materials, labs etc.

Course materials were very well-structured. Good thing about streaming the online course is that I can cast the lectures on my TV on a big screen, and it doesn’t feel like I am studying, instead it just really feels like I am watching some videos. I mean to say, that is at least how I studied. Practice exams really helped me revise and prepare for the exams. They are good indicators to understand if I am ready to take the actual exam.

Although everything within the course is self-explanatory, nevertheless the StudentCare™ consultant did a good job to touch-base and see how I was getting on. Any questions / emails were promptly answered. I got a call from Hollie as soon as I enrolled which was very helpful to get me started with Percipio. Mikayla has been fantastic to deal with all along the way. From brushing up my LinkedIn profile, my CV to providing me with interview tips, she did it all. My honest opinion about her is that she genuinely cares about the student’s career and helps them succeed. Appreciate the guidance and support Mikayla has provided without whose help, I would still be on the lookout for a job. If you are looking to switch your career to become an IT professional, or just looking to upskill, Learning People is the company to go to. With self-paced online lectures, you would be able to fit in at least a couple of hours of study every day, despite the busy schedule you may have.

The materials are engaging and easy to follow, and the lab/sandbox areas are great ways to get some basic hands-on experience.

The ongoing support shown is great, they check in regularly and more than happy to assist you to achieve your goals. During my study my student care consultants (Hollie & Gwen) have kept me accountable and have shown me lots of support throughout and nothing has been too difficult for them My Career Services Consultant Mikayla has been a great asset in breaking into the IT industry, from reviewing my resume and providing feedback and my LinkedIn profiles providing tips on how to increase my exposure, I cannot thank her enough. I received all the support I required and wanted throughout my studies from my Career Services Consultant Mikayla and the Student Care team, even as I am wrapping up my final parts of my last cert, I still do feel supported and can bounce back with any questions to my consultant at any time. The labs were super engaging, full of information and covered a lot of “what if” questions I had as I was learning. The extra resources as well, like the cards/tests and simulations were great at consolidating information too.”

Ashley Devonport, Age at enrolment: 31

Reason for enrolling

Ashley is a recent student of Learning People, only enrolling in January 2023. She first got in touch with us as she had been working in an Admin/IT role for an Insurance Brokerage. She felt like she had reached her limit for growth there but really enjoyed the IT side of things. Ashley knew she could do more in this space and wanted something that would allow her to progress and challenge herself. She started speaking with Adam Spero, one of our Senior Career Consultants, and decided Cyber Security was the perfect industry to do this. She had previously tried some other cheap courses but quickly realised she would not gain the skills she needed to do the role. Adam explained that she needed industry certifications to get noticed. Ashley loved the sound of everything and was eager to get enrolled.

StudentCare™

Ashley had her orientation with Bryce from our StudentCare™ team. She thought the platform looked great compared to what she had previously seen and wanted to jump straight in. She was also impressed with the support that she would have. Other online training options she had looked at did not have any support and you were left to do it yourself. She was happy knowing she always had someone to contact if she had any issues or needed help fitting the study in. She was also pleased to have expert mentors to help with the content if she needed it.

Career Services

Ashley wanted to get started with Career Services straight away. She was ready to move into a new role as soon as possible. Tabatha from our Career Services team started working with her as soon as she enrolled. They started by tailoring her CV and really highlighting her IT experience and transferable skills. From there they moved onto working on her LinkedIn profile. Ashley had not used LinkedIn a lot but knew she needed to focus on this. Tabatha showed Ashley different ways of using the platform to apply for roles as well as how to network with people in the industry and get noticed by potential employers. Ashley quickly got an interview, she was nervous about this as she had not interviewed in a long time. Tabatha did interview preparation with her and made sure she knew what to expect. They did some practice questions and went over the interview structure. Ashley landed the role! She is now working as a Digital Workspace Engineer. She is thrilled as she is on a higher salary and the company has a Cyber team so she will potentially be able to grow into this role down the track.

The results
  • About to sit CompTIA Network+
  • Obtained a role as a Digital Workspace Engineer for Buddle Finlay
Ashley says:

“I was quite nervous when I first enrolled. But once I started getting into the course material, everything started to fall into place. I realised the content was good and would help me get to where I needed to go.

I’m still early days into my courses, but I was already in the market for a new position. Tabatha really helped to re-vamp my CV & LinkedIn, as well as running me through the network side of LinkedIn, getting a better outcome with it. She helped me with interviewing and I have now landed a new role!”

Dale Bosecke, Age at enrolment: 31

Reason for enrolling

Dale had worked in a range of different roles over the years, mostly within the Labouring and Hospitality industries. He always knew this was not what he wanted long-term for his career and really wanted a new challenge that would allow him to have continuous growth. He felt there was nowhere to go in his current role as a Forklift Driver and after speaking with Corey, one of our Team Managers, Cyber Security really sparked his interest. Dale had always enjoyed working with computers and thought the industry in general sounded exciting. Dale couldn’t believe the opportunities that were out there and just how high the demand was. He loved that there was also opportunity to earn higher salaries and constant progression.

StudentCare™

After being shown around the platform in his orientation, Dale was excited to jump into it! He wanted to get the certifications ticked off quite quickly so he could move into a role as soon as possible. He loved that he could quickly request exam vouchers and book his exams at a time that worked best for him. Dale also enjoyed that everything was online, he was often in different locations, so it worked well that he always had access.

Career Services

Dale got started with Career Services straight away. Dale had doubts initially about the chances of actually finding a role with no experience at all. He worked with Tabatha, one of the Career Services team. She helped him work on his CV and LinkedIn profile. They needed to make sure he was highlighting all the transferable skills he had gained from other industries, even though they weren’t IT related. They spent a lot of time working on networking techniques and making sure Dale was getting noticed by people in the industry. Tabatha also really helped Dale with his confidence and feeling like he could just go for it and give this a go. When it came to interviewing, Dale was really nervous. He’s never had a professional interview and had no idea what to expect. They did interview preparation and mock interview questions to make sure he knew what it would be like in the interview. She helped with his email correspondence to potential employers, as Dale had never worked in a corporate role, Tabatha made sure to help him with his professionalism. Dale ended up getting multiple offers from companies as well as more companies requesting to interview him. Tabatha helped him with salary and contract negotiations. We are now thrilled to say that Dale has accepted a role as a Cyber Security Monitoring Analyst.

  • Obtained a role as a Cyber Security Monitoring Analyst

Dale says:

“When I first enrolled with the Learning People, I did not think that I would be able to continue working full-time and study on the side. Corey reassured me that I would be able to change careers without losing my income. I found my passion in studying IT and working through the course requirements as well as hands-on learning with the practice labs. I liked that I was able to set myself goals and it was up to me when I wanted to study more or less and sit for assessments.

Tabatha gave me so much confidence and helped me stand out to prospective employers. She told me when I would be ready to start applying for jobs and any doubts I had she erased them. I’ve got a hunger to keep learning and I owe it to the Learning People. I am so excited to start working in my first role in Cyber Security and could not have done it without the constant support and reassurance from Corey and Tabatha.”

My Career Services Consultant, Tabatha was exceptional. Even though I was yet to complete the study, she kindly offered career consultation advice on my resume, LinkedIn profile update, and job application preparation. Luckily, the stars aligned for me, and I had a successful career change from database and project management to Cybersecurity. Thankfully, I stuck with it and persevered, and I’m happy I did because it didn’t take long to find myself in my first IT role.

The course material is fantastic. It doesn’t take long into a course to realise that you are learning industry-standard information that will bolster your skills and knowledge incredibly, along with it being formatted in an easy-to-understand and absorb way in the LMS. Overall, I had a great time studying, and I believe this learning method is excellent.

Even when you have a problem, Student Care is readily available to help you with any issue quickly, and I was amazed at how quickly some of my issues were resolved. Student Care really helps make the learning experience seamless and stress-free.

Obtaining certifications is one thing but presenting yourself to employers is a big part of the job. Mikayla helped me develop a great CV and LinkedIn profile while also helping me understand how to use LinkedIn. All I had to do was call up and book weekly consults with her, and after a short time, I had a great-looking CV and LinkedIn profile. My confidence in obtaining a job had skyrocketed. Mikayla was professional and easy to work with and I learnt Important CV writing skills and networking skills from her, which If I didn’t obtain, I believe would have made my job search a lot harder, so I’m very thankful and owe a lot to Mikayla and believe she was crucial in helping me obtain my first job.”

Julia Wright, Age at enrolment: 53

Reason for enrolling

Julia enrolled with Learning People in June 2021. She had worked in the IT industry in various Service Desk Analyst roles. After stepping away from IT for the past seven years, she was not sure how to gain current skills that would be marketable in the industry now. Julia loved the sound of the hands-on support she would get from Learning People. She also liked the way the training was set out, and how practical the online labs were. Julia had previously done IT training and found it difficult learning without the practical side. After having a demonstration on the platform, she was excited to get enrolled.

StudentCare™

Julia was excited to get started, she jumped straight into the content and found it really interesting. She had regular catch ups with her StudentCare™ consultant, Hollie, to help keep her on track. She was a bit nervous about self-paced training and had support to set goals that she could stick to. Julia loved the content and found it really interesting, she also really enjoyed the labs. Julia found there were so many resources she could access to ensure she was successful in passing her exam and had enough knowledge to go for roles.

Career Services

Julia was contacted by Tabatha, from our Career Services team on her first week of enrolment. She wanted to get Network+ out of the way first and then crack into getting her CV and LinkedIn sorted. Tabatha continued to check in with Julia until she was ready and then they started the process. They went back and forth about her CV to ensure it was the best version it could be. It was important to make sure she was marketable for the right roles. Julia had not really used LinkedIn but understood the importance of it in this industry. After having guidance from Tabatha, she felt confident to get out there and network with people in the industry. At times Julia doubted herself, but they worked on her confidence and kept going. When Julia started getting interviews, they practiced for these and worked on interview techniques so she felt comfortable. We are now thrilled that Julia has a new role working as a Cyber Security Compliance Officer at Eftsure.

The results
  • CompTIA A+, Security+, Cyber Security Analyst+, PenTest+
  • Obtained a role as a Cyber Security Compliance Officer at Eftsure
Julia says:

“The Learning People journey for me has been an extremely positive one. At first I was unsure as to whether I had made the right move choosing to study Cyber Security but from the outset I had a great support network around me with my Student Support – Hollie who was highly encouraging and motivational by easing me into the training material and various subjects to ensure I was comfortable with the content.

We also mutually set mini goals each week to achieve throughout the course which was highly educational with the combination of video materials, relevant library resources and the wonderful labs to get the hands on experience to tie in perfectly with the training. I feel I have broaden my skill set within the Cyber Security space to make myself a highly employable person.

I was also provided with a Careers Services Consultant – Tabatha who supported me on every level for preparing me to enter the workforce, CV preparation and job interview skills and tips. This was a huge help for me and tied everything together in the transition from study to the workforce.

I would highly recommend Learning People if you are thinking of a career in the field of Cyber Security this is one of the best courses you can do.”

Matthew Rowe, Age at enrolment: 25

Reason for enrolling

Matthew approached Learning People as he was working fulltime in Logistics and wanted to get into IT as this is a passion of his and was and understands the need for international certifications to ensure job security within this industry. StudentCare™ will continue to support Matthew throughout his journey.

Career Services

Matthew decided to wait for a few months before engaging in the Career Services support with his Consultant Mikayla. Mikayla took Matthew through a full CV Consultation and discussed how to best display his recent certification success and technical skillset on his CV and LinkedIn profile. Eu Beng (Ben) Liow, Age at enrolment: 35

Reason for enrolling

Ben had been working in the manufacturing industry as a Project Manager. He had always been interested in IT and after his company suffered a cyber attack he was fascinated by this area. Ben felt like there was no internal opportunities in the career path he was in, and after being at the company for 7 years, he also realised he was being underpaid. Ben started researching ways he could get trained in Cyber Security and get into the industry. After speaking with Duncan, one of our Senior Career Consultants, he felt like Learning People was the perfect option for him.

StudentCare™

Ben got started on the training straight away, he loved that it was all online and he could access it whenever he wanted and have flexibility with his life. He was excited to get through the certs quickly, and was pleased he did not have to spend three years at university to get qualified and look for a role. Erin, one of our StudentCare™ consultants, worked closely with Ben, they had regular check ins to ensure he was keeping to his study plan. He found the support helpful and the process of getting exam vouchers and sitting exams seamless.

Career Services

Ben got his first couple of certifications quickly and was excited to get started with Career Services. He started working with Tabatha, in our Career Services team. They did a CV consult and she helped him tailor this towards Cyber roles, as he was changing industries Tabatha ensured his CV still highlighted his transferable skills as well as his new technical skillset. They then discussed his LinkedIn profile and how he should be using the platform for networking alongside his job search. This was all new to Ben as he had never really needed it before. Ben spent time getting connected with people in the industry. When the time came, they worked together on Cover Letters for his job applications and also did interview preparation. Tabatha coached Ben on the different interview techniques and questions that might come up. After being selected out of hundreds of people, Ben ended up being offered a role as a Graduate Security Analyst with Xero.

The results
  • CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cyber Security Analyst+, PenTest+
  • Obtained a role as a Graduate Security Analyst at Xero
Ben says:

“Really thankful to Learning People NZ for strongly encouraging me to pursue my dream in IT. The career advisor, Duncan just could see deep inside me that I am really interested in and passionate to do IT, especially Cyber Security but didn’t have the courage to go outside my comfort zone, and change career. Several phone calls with encouragements later, I committed to investing in myself. I enrolled with Learning People and started the learning process straight away. The learning platform is great, with e-books, video lessons, practice labs, practice tests and live courses which helped me to learn effectively from all aspects.

The learning process is not easy, but to get there all I need is to commit 1-2 hours a day to make it happen, which require some discipline and resilience. StudentCare™ rep Erin is awesome and very helpful in any queries I have regarding studies, even offered tips on how to study effectively. The career services team did a great job. My Career Consultant, Tabatha is AMAZING! She guided me through all the required processes to arm me for the job application process, LinkedIn Profile, CV, cover letter, interview preps and patiently listen and answered all my queries until I landed a job after going through all the 5 stages of candidate assessments. Today I just signed the employment agreement form with one of the largest software companies in Australasia region and am officially an IT Practitioner in Cyber Security before completing my final paper. I’m sure you could do the same as long as you commit your time, persevere, study hard, and follow your heart to pursue your dream job! No pain, no gain and it’s worth the commitment.”

Chelsea Eletva, Age at enrolment: 28

Reason for enrolling

Chelsea enrolled with Learning People back in July 2021. She had been working in the events industry for around 5 years but wanted to make a change into something with more job security. After seeing an ad online and putting through an inquiry, she started doing some research and decided this could be the right thing for her. She spoke with Scott, one of our Senior Career Consultants, and got some advice around the best certifications to do to get started in the industry. Chelsea was quite nervous about getting a role as this was completely new to her. She also spoke with someone in our Career Services team and was extremely excited about this part of the service as she had no idea how to get a role in the industry.

StudentCare™

Chelsea had a demonstration on the platform prior to enrolling so she could get a feel for how the training would work. She loved how easy it was to navigate and the live labs. Chelsea worked closely with our StudentCare™ team every step of the way. They loved working with her as she was extremely motivated and always wanted to put her full effort into it. Chelsea was initially nervous she would not be able to do the training due to having no IT background what so ever, but with the help of StudentCare™ and her own determination, she flew through the certifications.

Career Services

Chelsea started working with Career Services right from the start of her enrolment. She wanted guidance around different avenues within Cyber. She got advice of ways of combining her previous experience as well as new skills gained from her training. Tabatha, from our Career Services team, gave her advice every step of the way. Chelsea did not realise how broad the roles were within this sector. When she initially spoke with Tabatha, she lacked confidence and was nervous even thinking about applying for roles. Tabatha consistently checked in with her and encouraged her to give it a go. She helped Chelsea to tailor her CV and ensure it was marketable in the sector, as well as shifting the focus of her LinkedIn profile. They looked at different roles in the industry and decided on a career path that would make the most of Chelsea’s transferable skills as well as her new technical skill set. Chelsea started applying for roles and began getting interviews quickly. She ended up having multiple offers. Tabatha helped her to navigate these conversations and decide what was the best role for her. Chelsea is now working for Loop Secure as an Executive Sales Associate within the Cyber team.

The results
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Cyber Security Analyst+
  • Obtained a role as an Executive Sales Associate (Cyber Security) for Loop Secure
Chelsea says:

“The enrolment process was really easy and I found the consultant so supportive and helpful, and definitely is the reason I ended up enrolling (thanks to the hours spent on the phone discussing the industry with me!). It was extremely helpful that she explained the different avenues you can go down because it really opened my eyes to a world of opportunities that I had no idea about.

StudentCare™ were really helpful and motivating. They were always so responsive and really understood the sense of urgency I had when it came to booking exams, etc.

My journey with Career Services was absolutely amazing, Tabatha was so helpful when I was applying for jobs and has been just great at keeping me positive and motivated. She taught me so much and is probably the reason why I ended up in the role I’m now in as well.

Overall, I am extremely glad I did this course, because even though I have ended up in a sales role rather than a technical role, even just within my first week it has helped so much – understanding the terminology and being able to visualise how the services that I’m selling work…plus, just having the “certification” behind me to be able to validate that I know what I’m talking about, it gives me more credibility when talking to executives and highly skilled IT personnel that I’ve been speaking to in my role. I’m glad that Tabatha explained the different avenues to me, because I have been able to get into a role that is perfect for me – a combination of cyber security and client/relationship management. If I hadn’t completed this course I wouldn’t have felt confident to apply for the role that I’m in I don’t think! And if I hadn’t have explored cyber security in the first place, I wouldn’t have even known that such a role that I’ve ended up in existed and was in such high demand.”

Hernan Weiss, Age at enrolment: 28

Reason for enrolling

Hernan had enquired with Learning People to find out further information on the Cyber Security courses we offer as he had completed a level 6 IT Diploma however, felt he had not learnt the practical skillset to start looking for employment and starting a career in Cyber Security. After an extensive conversation with his Senior Careers Consultant Tim, they had created a set career pathway for Hernan to embark on.

StudentCare™

Hernan’s StudentCare™ Consultant Alex went through a full, comprehensive training orientation the day after Hernan enrolled to ensure he was comfortable with using the training platform and understood the examination process. StudentCare™ also arranged regular catch-up calls with Hernan to ensure he was tracking within his set goals and completing the training with all questions answered along the way. StudentCare™ also assisted with recommendations on e-books and additional resources via the platform which assisted Hernan with his study journey.

Career Services

Hernan’s Career Services Consultant Mikayla went through a very extensive CV Consult to start off with, this allowed them to discuss any amendments needed as well as adding the relevant certifications to showcase these skills to employers. Next was a LinkedIn page analysis followed by a LinkedIn Networking consult to discuss searching for roles, how to use LinkedIn and start Networking. Career Services also completed several interview preparation sessions with Hernan to ensure he was as prepared as possible and was comfortable with the interviewing process. Career Services were also here for Hernan when he had industry and market questions throughout his journey.

The results
  • CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cyber Security Analyst+
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Obtained a Cyber Security Analyst role at Spark
Hernan says:

“When I first enrolled in the program I wasn´t fully sure how it was going to work out, but I felt confident that the material and support I would receive would be useful and sufficient. The first month of studying was mainly adaptation and focusing on finding a structure or routine to make it as efficient as possible, and, with help of Student Care and Career Advisor I was able to make my studying time even more efficient. It is impressive how much material is available for each course/certification, it could be overwhelming trying to decide where to start or what to do next but once I was done with my first cert, everything became easier and better planned for the upcoming challenges. I could not be happier with the assistance I received from both the Student Care and

Career Services consultant that were assigned to me. Both were extremely easy to talk to, present at the right times, and always provided guidance and motivation to push me in the right direction. I wouldn´t have completed the program as quickly as I did nor gotten the job I finally signed up for without their help. Thank you very much The Learning People, Alex Davison, and Mikayla Davison for this life-changing experience. I have now achieved something that many would have thought to be impossible but that can be done, all that is needed is determination and the right help.”

Lenard Pestano, Age at enrolment: 35

Reason for enrolling

Lenard has years of experience in the IT field and mainly worked in Service Desk/IT Support type roles. Lenard knew it was time for career advancement and wanted to fill in any knowledge gaps and validate his Cyber Security skills. Lenard had a great discussion with his senior Career Consultant Adam, regarding the benefits of gaining international certifications and the progression within IT and came up with a course collection that was best suited for him and where he wants to go in his career.

StudentCare™

The StudentCare™ team spoke with Lenard within the first few days of his enrolment to ensure he was comfortable with using the platform features and understood the exam and support process too. StudentCare™ touched base with Lenard occasionally, to check in and remind him of the support as he was a very independent learner and was happy to reach out when needing to discuss obtaining an examination voucher or needing general support.

Career Services

Career Services started to support Lenard once he began obtaining his certifications. His Career Services Consultant Mikayla completed a full CV, Cover Letter and LinkedIn review and ran through some tips and ideas on how to improve these and become more visible with displaying his IT skills and certifications successfully.

The results
  • CompTIA A+ CORE, Network+, Security+, PenTest +
  • Obtained a role as a Cyber Security Analyst at Paraflare
Lenard says:

“I felt excited and nervous at the same time when enrolling. Excited because it was a period where I knew I needed to do something to improve my career and I wanted to learn new things which would also help fill in some gaps and re-validate my knowledge in IT overall. Nervous because naturally failure and doubt does come into one’s mind when taking on something new where you don’t know what the outcome may be and where it will take you. Thankfully, we know where this led to in time with an awesome outcome. The course materials in the form of videos are fantastic and cover a lot of areas a standard study All-in-one book would do. The practice labs and exam simulations prepare you very well for the exam.

The support is fantastic, 5 out of 5. Anytime I would email or call with any questions or concerns and even looking new courses to do, book exams, help with improving a resume and cover letter. I always received an answer along with the relevant information to improve my job hunting prospects. As I progressed with my study and certifications, I was ready to try and find a new job in Cyber Security. There was at times struggle on my own to get more job interviews my way so when I reached out again for help Mikayla from career services, she provided me the information to improve my resume and cover letter to stand out more which eventually landed me a new role in Cyber Security.”

Fynn Johnson, Age at enrolment: 20

Reason for enrolling

Fynn first inquired with Learning People when he was 18, he wanted to get a role within Networking and Security. Fynn had always had an interest in Cyber Security. During his time at high school, he had dabbled in some networking but never had any proper training. The schools in his area did not have options that would suit him, and he knew he needed to study in order to gain a role in the industry. Fynn had no idea where to start when it came to what certifications and training, he needed. He spoke with Tyler, one of our Senior Career Consultants, who discussed his goals and recommended him a course collection that would help him pursue his dream of becoming a Cyber Security Analyst. Fynn had also lost his part-time role due to Covid, so knew this was the right time to take the plunge and set himself up for the future.

StudentCare™

Fynn loved that he had support from StudentCare™ whenever he needed it. He was nervous about online learning and did not know where to start. StudentCare™ did an orientation with him and showed him the platform and how to access everything he needed to get started with his training. Fynn was then feeling extremely excited to get going and was happy to have regular discussions with his StudentCare™ Consultant to help keep him on track. He loved using the live labs and the fact he was able to learn in a practical style. Whenever Fynn needed support, advice or just a check in call to keep him on track, he could get it from his StudentCare™ Consultant. This made his journey run smoothly which he was thankful for.

Career Services

Since Fynn was new to the workforce, he was excited about the help from Career Services. Tabatha, in our Career Services team, got in touch with Fynn and made plan to get started. They began by doing a CV consultation. He needed help with how to tailor his CV towards the IT sector and ensure his new skillset was highlighted. From there they moved on to his LinkedIn profile, Fynn had never really used the platform, so they worked together on how to set everything up and ensure he was marketing himself in the best way. Tabatha also helped Fynn network with people in the sector and approach potential organisations he wanted to work for. This was all a daunting process for Fynn since he was completely new to it and Career Services made sure to support him every step of the way and ensure he felt confident. Once he secured and interview, we coached him on his interview techniques and practiced answering questions. Fynn is now thrilled to be working as an Associate Analyst for one of the leading Cyber Security Firms in Australia.

The results
  • CompTIA A+ CORE, Network+, Security+, Cyber Security Analyst+
  • Obtained a role as a Cyber Analyst at CyberCX
Fynn says:

“When I first started studying with The Learning People, I was a bit nervous as there were a lot of options, ranging from the course material to the labs and to the online textbooks there is a lot to dive into. Once I got into the material, I found that it was well structured and concise, each course led into the next in an intelligent and easy to follow way, and if you felt like you wanted a better understanding of any subject you could dive into the labs. And if that wasn’t enough to grasp an understanding of the subject you could turn to the Student Care Consultant to get a 1 on 1 learning experience.

After you have completed your courses your Career Services Consultant will help to tailor your resume and online presence to give you the best chance possible of getting into the field. After working with my Career Services Consultant, Tabatha I landed a job as an Analyst for one of the leading Cyber Security firms and I couldn’t be happier!”

“My original contact at Learning People (via LinkedIn) was Henrietta who encouraged me to consider a package of network, cyber security and project management certifications as a means to build

upon the solid foundations of 20 years of senior IT management experience. This turned out to be good advice and a wise investment, following my redundancy.

Right from the word go, my Student Care Support contact provided great support as well as a walk through of the learning platform, including the Live Labs. David was a primary contact throughout my learning journey. It was with David that I would share my exam successes and also request exam vouchers as I approached exam readiness for the next certification. He also provided expert encouragement and advice throughout the learning journey.

I have found the learning portal to be both useful and intuitive. It provides access to learning materials in the form of videos, eBooks and text documents as well as providing quizzes and exam prep. Perhaps the most useful section is the Live Labs that allows you to run virtual machines and simulate cyber attack scenarios in a safe learning environment.

Since starting I have now passed a number of useful technical certifications. In the latter stages of my learning journey I was introduced to Tabatha, an expert Career Services Consultant. With Tabatha’s assistance I have been able to refine my CV as well as my LinkedIn profile. Tabatha also provided invaluable advice in relation to my job search strategy, including assistance with interview skills and cover letter formulation. I have recently landed a very exciting role and I will commence work as a Senior Data and Analytics consultant in mid April with a global engineering consultancy, thanks in no small part to the learnings as well as the support and advice I received from the team at Learning People.

Throughout my journey I have benefitted from the good natured and extremely helpful, supportive and responsive team from Learning People. Very special shout-out to Henrietta, David, Tabatha, Julia, and Robin. Looking forward to more learning down the track!”

He wanted to transition into more of a Cyber Security role and had been researching what certifications he would need to do this. He had already inquired with some other providers but found they did not have the range that he was looking for, or the support Learning People offer. After speaking with Robin, one of our Senior Career Consultants, he was impressed by the certifications and the support Learning People provided. He enrolled and could not wait to get started.

StudentCare™

Onur got stuck into the training right away. He loved the immediate support from the StudentCare™ team. Onur was impressed that he was able to have free resits if he needed them. My StudentCare™ Consultant, was great in providing help and assistance especially from a difficult student at times. I also enjoyed working with Career Services and was relieved to have their support when navigating conversations for multiple offers. It’s not just the courseware and people you interact with, but the confidence and guidance they provide that I am truly thankful for.”

Caelun Squires, Age at enrolment: 22

Reason for enrolling

Caelun enquired with Learning People in April 2021. He was in his final year of completing a Bachelor of Security Studies. Caelun had been researching different certification options, as he felt like his degree had given him a good theoretical understanding but didn’t have the practical skills he needed to get into the industry. He spoke with Tim, one of our Senior Career Consultants and figured out what certifications were going to be best for him. Tim got an understanding of his background and what his future goals were, then was able to recommend the best options for him. Caelun knew the value of industry certifications and after speaking with Tim, he was confident this was the perfect option for him.

StudentCare™

StudentCare™ took Caelun through his Orientation straight away, he was very eager to get started. Because he was already studying towards his University degree and working a part-time job, he had a very busy schedule. The Student Care team worked closely with him to create a personalised study plan that would allow him to juggle his existing commitments.

Caelun made excellent progress and flew through the training. He wanted to get his certifications done by the time he finished his degree. Student Care made sure to work with him and plan for this so he could achieve his goal. When Caelun had his university exams, he reduced the amount of time he would put into his online training, then in the holidays he was able to put more hours in. Caelun loved that the training was completely self-paced and allowed for his changing schedule.

Career Services

Career Services got in touch with Caelun in his first week, they discussed his goals and made a plan to start working together once he finished his first two certifications. Tabatha, one of our Career Services Consultants, continued to check in with him regularly and adjusted their plan to work in with his University schedule.

Tabatha helped Caelun tailor his CV towards Cyber Security. They focused on highlighting his transferable skills as well as the technical skills he has gained in his certifications. They also discussed his LinkedIn profile, Caelun was new to this so Tabatha had a few calls to go over the networking side of things and getting him in front of the right people.

Caelun achieved his goal and finished up his degree and his first two certifications. From there he had several interviews, Tabatha did interview preparation for these and made sure he was comfortable throughout this process. Caelun has now been offered a role working as a Cyber Security Consultant for QBE, he will be doing Internal Penetration Testing within his role and could not be happier!

Caelun says:

“Starting my CompTIA certifications with the Learning People was a pretty big step for me to undertake during my final year of university and one which could have proven to be extremely stressful. Thanks, however, to my extremely supportive Student Care Consultant David and Career Services Consultant Tabatha the process was anything but stressful. I was able to focus on the course materials knowing that any technical, process or career development questions I may have could be easily answered by an email or phone call. Thanks to Tabatha’s help I was able to refine my resume and Linkedin and begin growing my connections which ultimately helped immensely in landing my dream job within the space of a year. I cannot recommend the Learning People strongly enough and would encourage anyone considering a certification with them to reach out and get started.”

The StudentCare™ team was wonderful. Any time I had an issue or a question they were quick to respond and happy to assist. I thank them for their hard work.

I started working with Julia from Career Services after finishing the first couple of certifications. She took time to understand my position and that I did not have a lot of spare time. Bradley Steinbach, Aged at enrolment: 26

Reason for enrolling

Bradley enrolled with Learning People in February 2021. After working in real estate for 6 years, he was looking for a change. Bradley always had a passion for tech and had been thinking about getting certified for a while. He did some research and came across Learning People.

After speaking with Conor, one of our Senior Career Consultants, he knew this was the right decision for him and was excited to jump onboard.

Bradley was new to cyber security, so Career Services got started with him straight away. They consulted with him on his CV and LinkedIn profile, and got him started with networking and growing his digital presence.

He connected with the right people and was able to find a role that combines his real estate experience with his cyber certifications. Bradley now has a role as a Cyber Security Customer Relationship and Business Development Manager.

The results
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Currently studying S+, CySA+, PenTest+ and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
  • Obtained employment as Cyber Security Customer Relationship and Business Development Manager for CyberSec People
Bradley says:

"Browsing the internet trying to find suitable courses and certifications to transition to cyber security can be very exhausting and overwhelming. I am so happy that I came across Learning People for my training and certifications in cyber security.

I felt like Conor, the Career Consultant, listened to what I was saying and built a course around what he felt I would succeed at and be interested in. They also were extremely attentive to my needs, and as someone who makes decisions quickly, this was a huge plus! I felt like my StudentCare™ Consultant wasn’t too pushy and always tried to support me.

I cannot speak highly enough about the course content and web platform that I have been provided. Many online learning platforms for CompTIA certifications can offer great videos and learning resources, but where Learning People excels is in the virtual labs. These labs give so much practical, hands-on exposure to the learning concepts. A lot of people comment that the Security+ content is too high-level and not practical enough, but with Learning People’s labs I have had the opportunity to hack with Kali Linux, create my own malware, and infect Windows systems in real time! Since I have started my journey, I have now added on additional courses and certifications to keep improving. As someone who has used a number of other free online resources, the value is demonstrated in the practice labs and exams from Learning People.

There is a huge added value of having constant support from the Career Services team. Free online platforms don’t offer the 1-on-1 tailored service that you get with Learning People. I always feel like I am supported with learning and building my career profile within cyber security. Learning People even helped me prepare my LinkedIn profile for maximum exposure which ultimately landed me my first job in the industry. This is really seamless customer experience from start to finish and I am certainly an advocate for their highly modern and effective services.”

James Rudd, Age at enrolment: 25

Reason for enrolling

James enrolled with us in December 2019. At the time he was working within the building industry, but he had always wanted to pursue a career in cyber security.

StudentCare™

James trained efficiently while working full time and was keen to learn. Setting up a study plan that worked meant he completed his first two cyber security qualifications quickly. We are incredibly proud of his success.

Career Services

In February, James contacted us and at that stage he thought he might like to relocate to Brisbane or Sydney. He then changed his plan when COVID-19 hit and he remained in Newcastle. James was a model student and listened to all advice from the team. We worked with James on his CV and helped set up his profile on LinkedIn. James was coached how to network in the market by using LinkedIn and how to register with the right recruitment agencies. He took all the advice on board and was subsequently interviewed over Skype, securing his first cyber security role within only a few months of enrolling.

Riekert Jansen Van Rensburg

Reason for enrolling:

Riekert had been working in different sales positions for the last 10 years, but was desperately unhappy. He had always wanted to work within the tech industry but was unsure how to make the first steps.

Riekert reached out to us and, after a detailed consultation with one of our Senior Career Consultants, enrolled onto our Cyber Security Analyst collection.

StudentCare™

Riekert was a complete beginner when it came to digital skills. After the first few sessions with StudentCareTM Riekert slowly started to realise his potential.

The team provided weekly 1 to 1 study sessions to motivate Reikert to success. The sessions included support with a study plan and time management. Gaining the practical skills through our live practice labs, Reikert quickly gained the technical skills required to work in the industry and validated these skills internationally with his certifications.

Career Services

Career Services offered Riekert support in boosting his employability. With the help of the team, he learnt how to build a network using LinkedIn and how to work with recruitment agencies.

Riekert’s work with Career Services ensured his globally recognised certifications were visible to hiring managers and recruiters.
